Yes if u have no idea what I’m on about , then my friend, I’m afraid your still in the dark, stone, old ages. But fear no more!! For I shall show you the light.
TWITTER is an online social networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts known as ‘tweets’. Through the advent of twitter small and large scale businesses have been able a wide publicity platform. Celebrities have been able to be in direct contact with they’re fans thus creating a wider fane base. Also people like you and me have been able to keep up with events taking place around us.
Celebrities are arguably the group of people who benefit most from this platform made available by Twitter. Take musicians for instance, an upcoming artist can generate ‘hype’ on twitter by attaining a lot of followers, create a buzz by setting a particular date to the release of a new song which will be retweeted (to copy and post someone else’s tweet with reference to that person)by followers. Then on the day set, a link to download the song will be posted and also retweeted. And just like that, this unknown artist has gained a large audience (especially when he/she is talented).
Micheal Collins or Don jazzy as he is widely referred to as, is a young Nigerian entrepreneur who had used his well acclaimed popularity on twitter to his advantage. With over 277,739 followers, Don jazzy follows 38,206 people. He also actively tweets at and retweets fans making him a twitter celebrity favorite.
Earlier this year M.I tweeted reasons why he doesn’t often retweet or reply fans on twitter. One of his reasons is because Don jazzy makes every other celebrity look bad due to his active twitter persona.
Also, Don jazzy recently concluded the ‘Enigma’ competition in which he produced a beat, posted a link for rappers and singers alike to download, freestyle on it and send it back to him. The winner was to get a substantial amount in cash as the prize. In the recent ‘Mohit scandal’, most Nigerians without hearing the real story (of which are numerous with non confirmed by both sides) automatically took Don jazzy’s side even though he was silent about it all.
Don jazzy as a young entrepreneur has used twitter not only for his entertainment, but also to build a wide fan base, market artists from his record label and also to reach out to the up and coming young artists.
Who says business and pleasure can’t be mixed. Well that's in my opinion, what do you think? Is twitter just a social media site or is it another means of promoting your Business?
